Okay, it's cold. Really cold. With the wind chill, it's supposed to feel like zero degrees outside or something. I can only imagine what it might feel like further north. I can only imagine what it feels like outside right now, because we're not going out there!
We had to go to work today, and of course Madison was off to school this morning to take her tests. She did well on them, she said. She had a math test, and that test on the Roaring Twenties. The other part of the test had to do with World War I, the "War to End All Wars." This was why we watched Wonder Woman the other night. Anyway, Madison knows about the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who of course is responsible for the hit song, "Take Me Out." Of course, that's not the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. That's a music group named after Franz Ferdinand, who was - ironically - "taken out."
She did well on her tests, and did great doing a bit of catch up. Daddy was working today, getting things ready for tomorrow night's service - but that might not happen after all. The weather is really cold out there, and there is talk of a dusting of snow. We'll see how things progress, but in the meantime, tonight we had piano class, at least. Madison and the others went to class tonight, braving the cold. Daddy stayed in the car, doing a bit of work again towards tomorrow night's service. He made this board game that involves climbers going up a mountain. If we don't have service tomorrow night, it'll fit the following week, so either way there was a good bit done. In the meantime, Madison continues to enjoy class. She practices regularly, and you can tell it's easier for her to find keys on the piano. It's all good.
Tonight we read from the fasting book, the book of John, and also this latest book, "Ahsoka."
So far, the pacing on this story has been a bit slower, as we're learning about a farming planet, and the life of a jedi padawan on the run. But there is trouble on the horizon, and hopefully conflict. You definitely feel ready to see the bad guys get some comeuppance.
Tonight we were watching the weather a bit - already it's snowing a little. It is nothing like the last snowstorm in December, but the shifting forecast is suggesting we'll be best served staying indoors tomorrow again. School was cancelled much later in the evening - Forsyth County Schools were the last domino to fall, as all the other school districts were calling it earlier, each falling one by one. Finally, we were able to go to sleep tonight, a small secret smile about us because we knew we don't have to set the alarm for early tomorrow.
As we go off to sleep, here's the latest entry for our fasting devotional:

“He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:30 NIV
Without prayer, fasting is not fasting. It’s just a diet. While that may seem obvious, some people might miss the whole point of a fast! Of course, if you’re reading this devotional, we’re guessing you’re not one of those people.
Cutting back on sweets, or whatever it is we choose to have less of, is fine on its own. But the real strength and power comes when we pray, and spend more time with our Heavenly Father. You see? Less really is more.
When you decide to have less food, less candy, less television, or even less video games, you’re creating an opening in your schedule – and your heart! Why not fill it with more prayer, more reading, and more help for the church? You’re making more room for God in your life, and when you do that, you’re opening your life to miraculous power, amazing grace, indescribable love, and so much more that if we were to list it all, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that could be written.
Summed up in one phrase, fasting is this simple: “More of Him, Less of Me.” That’s what you’re doing on this fast. You’re making more room for God to be in your life. And trust us: that is never, ever a bad thing.
