Art camp was fun today. Madison painted a truck. A real truck, siting outside. She and all her other art camp students went outside and attacked an old truck with paint, and it of course got pretty messy. They were even using just their fingers at one point. Yeah, it's a good thing we were told to have them wear old clothing. They had a great time!
She's learning about folk art this week, but there was time for something else afterwards: the pool. Nana, Aunt Shain and Hannah all came over this afternoon, and together we hit the pool here for about an hour. It wasn't so much a day of swimming as it was a day of splashing each other in a completely relentless fashion. Madison has been into that lately, and it got crazy there at the pool.
We had a great fish dinner waiting for us when we got back, a wonderful meal prepared by Mommy while we were gone. Just perfect. And after that, there was more LEGO Indiana Jones to the rescue. Yeah, today was a busy day!
Daddy was at work, of course, and one of his side projects is a new devotional, one completely dedicated to healing. It's dedicated to Uncle Dave, who we hope can experience that healing. This devotional gives Daddy something he can do, so hopefully it can be put together to help lift up patients like he and anyone else in such a grave situation.
Nehemiah 8:10 "The joy of the Lord is our strength."
Are you feeling weak in your body, and weak in your faith? The Bible has many sources of help, including one famous scripture from the book of Nehemiah. In the Old Testament, Nehemiah tells us, "The joy of the Lord is our strength."
He should know. During his life, the walls of Jerusalem were at their lowest, and the city weakened. Jerusalem was sick and dying, and the future appeared bleak. Yet Nehemiah suddenly found an inner strength in purpose. His entire life was focused on rebuilding that city, and doing something mighty for God.
Doubt wanted to creep in. At one point, there were those that even tried to get him to stop. "Why bother?" some said. But he was so focused, he turned and told them, "I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down."
You too are doing a great work for God, no matter where you are - even if it is recovering in a hospital bed. Part of our joy - our strength - is in our purpose, our very reason for living. The simple fact is that if you are still alive, God has an assignment for you, an important thing that He has called you and you only to accomplish.
So what exactly is it? For some, that purpose is a child to be raised the right way. For others, it is a ministry that will take place. For many, it is a dream that still remains unfulfilled. What is that thing God has called you to do?
Whatever it may be, remember that He is not finished with you yet. Find strength - and joy - in your purpose. It's your very reason for living. Keep that goal on the forefront of your mind, and know that when we are weak, He is strong enough to help you see it through.
