It was a Saturday not to go anywhere, at least for us. We decided to stay indoors, largely, although I did get out there to shovel the driveway and sidewalk with the snow shovel. We actually have a snow shovel, and yes this is the first time I've used it in years. But I'm glad I held on to it, right? The other thing I did outside was keep the bird feeders full, and also make sure Jeff the Snowman has a good handful for the sparrows.
Ice froze all on the trees, simply illuminating the forest with a magical glow as little trickles of sunlight occasionally streamed down. It was beautiful out there. But it was also fairly chilly. Tonight the temperature will be in the upper teens, so we spent the day hoping the sunlight would melt enough off these roads so that we could be at church tomorrow.
Today, however, we slept in a bit. I spent much of the day working on this new booklet for KidPak, as this has been very much a heavy weight with a tight deadline coming up. Ugh. Still, I took a break to spend some time with Maddie as she was playing her new game from Christmas, one based on the Ghostbusters franchise that she likes a good bit. She was actually online playing with other Ghostbusters, cleaning up the town.
I was also on the treadmill again, and this morning I finished up "Facing the Giants," which was actually a pretty good movie. Glad I watched it, as it has plenty of great moments within. I'm not a football or basketball guy so much, but we're in that season, and in fact we just got some tickets for the basketball game at the high school this Tuesday. That was one thing I told Maddie - we need to go to at least one basketball game before we get out of high school, just to say we did. So here we are at the last season, and we'll go check it out. Maddie is inviting her friend, the other Maddie. And that makes two sporting events these two are going to next week, as there's an ice hockey game on the calendar for next Saturday.
Mom and I had our traditional bath this morning, the one that takes place with snow all outside - just the contrast of a hot bath and a window with a view of a snowy landscape is pretty fun. Afterwards, she made us all a fast-friendly breakfast, with lots of fruit. I picked up a lot of fruit from the grocery store, so we've been having delicious kiwi fruit, apples, and pears too. Yes, we have no bananas. We have no bananas today.
Devotional time was good again. I read from our recent "Chosen" devotional, and we answered some guided questions. I'm probably going to be digging into the book of Isaiah after all this.
We wrapped up the day with a movie that goes along with the Lunar New Year theme. Yes, that's coming up soon, so we'll be watching a few movies that take place in Asia, or China specifically. Tonight's movie was "Abominable," which seems like so long ago when we saw that in theaters. It's a tour of China and really a beautiful movie.
We closed out the day with reading from the Discworld, and then an early night's sleep after prayers and tucking everyone in. It's going to be chilly in the morning, but we'll be out there ready for church!
