Madison took this picture from the moving car today as the sun was setting. We made our trip down today after getting a decent night's rest, and doing quite a bit of last-minute packing this morning. We won't be down too long, so there wasn't too much concern about the packing of the car. We filled it up with gas last night, so really we were right out the door and down the road fairly quickly. Mommy made sandwiches for us, and we made really good time, the first sign of favor being a complete lack of traffic in Henry County. I wouldn't label that a miracle, but it is about as rare a thing as there is. Also fortunately, we got through Crawford County fairly quickly. That's somewhat of a joke, because when riding down I-75, there's this sign for Crawford County, and then within a half mile, you're in another county. You're in this country for roughly ten seconds each trip! Too bad there's not a welcome center nearby or a rest area.
Anyway, we stopped in Cordele as always for Chick-Fil-A and a trip to the gas station there to fill up. And then we were off again, stopping occasionally at rest areas. The exciting stop was the Florida Welcome Center, where we were super thrilled to see the return of FREE ORANGE JUICE! That's right, it's back! The welcome center was not only open, but they had free orange juice to hand out to visitors. And that's not all. Of course there's the gazillion pamphlets there for different destinations in Florida, but they also had for us free comic books telling of the adventures of Captain Citrus.
This was the stop of the day, folks. Game changer! There's a great reason to stop at the Florida Welcome Center again. Captain Citrus stands proudly behind the counter, there's orange juice, and I've got three comic books telling of his adventures with the Avengers. Seriously, the orange juice perked me right up, as I was pretty tired by that point in this journey. My spirit was perked up a little too, as things have been pretty down lately. It's funny what a little orange juice and a comic book can do for one's spirits. You should try it.
We arrived down here in Florida after a slight diversion in driving. We went due east at the Flagler Beach exit, and went over there, and then by the Pirate House, driving south along the shoreline. It was windy, and sandy too. But the view is nice, and the drive is a lot less hectic and more scenic.
Eventually we did arrive at Nana's condo, and tonight we reunited with her and Uncle George. It's a terrible thing not having Ba-Ba here. Tonight, I made a slide show to put up on the online obituary wall, and it turned out nice. We showed Nana, and she enjoyed seeing all the pictures. I went through quite a few pictures, and obviously I didn't get to all of them, but I found some great ones along the way.
Tonight, Madison was sickened at the sight of a giant cockroach. She was watching "Men in Black" for the first time, and all was well until she saw the giant cockroach at the end. She hates those things. But she did enjoy the movie, and odds are we'll be seeing the next one soon enough, and then part three one more time. It's a good season for that. Mommy made popcorn, and the five of us sat and watched the movie together before bedtime. In bed, we read more from "The Wizard of Oz," and our devotional as well, and Madison reminded us to say our prayers, of course. We got down here without incident, and all is well. We're still sad, but things are getting better.
