Pumpkin Day

This afternoon was so nice that we played hooky from ballet, and made a trip to Burt's while the gettin' was good!  Seriously, there's been so much rain lately that we haven't had an opportunity to breeze over there for a walk through the pumpkin patch.  But today's weather was nice, so after school, we got ready and made the pleasant trip over to that place in the mountains about halfway between Dawsonville and Jasper.  Of course, we had that banjo music going with Steve Martin's "The Crow," and a little bit of Hot Club of Cowtown.  Perfect traveling companions for the fall weather.  The leaves are just starting to turn a bit, so we'll get a better chance to see some fall colors a little later this month.  But the pumpkins were numerous, as you can see above.  We stopped by Burt's Pumpkin Farm and had a nice time wandering through the sea of orange, taking photos, and taking a few pumpkins as well.  Madison picked hers and Daddy picked one as well - this year, we're thinking of painting these pumpkins, rather than carving them - we both have an idea or two.  Camille is coming to our pumping carving party at the end of the month, and she's allergic to the insides of a pumpkin, oddly enough.  So that said, we'll have a pumpkin painting table at the party, and we've got our plans in place for it.  Madison loves Camille, so she'll have a great time with the paints and pumpkins.

As for today, it was nice as always.  Both Daddy and Mommy took lots of photos, and we also got some peanut brittle for the ride home.  Madison fed a lot of fish in the stream there - if you don't have a quarter for the fish food machine, just look at the piles of fish food that landed on the ground around the dispenser!

We picked up a movie on the way home from the library, one that Daddy reserved and no one has seen yet:  "The Book of Life."  It looks pretty seasonal - and there was that video rental service feeling again, as we popped in to pick up a movie.  To think, our entire society used to have this habit of dropping by some place to pick up a movie, and now we just rent it online.

But we didn't watch it tonight.  Madison earned the right to play some more "Jurassic World" tonight, having done extra homework and piano practice yesterday.  So that said, we went back to Jurassic Park and completed the first chapter of the game, the one based on the first movie.  Now Madison knows roughly the story of the first movie, including all the people who get gobbled up.

It was a nice October day, although it was a little warmer than you'd think.  More rain is on the way, which is quite a bit.  Even worse, it is heading over to South Carolina as well - the last thing they need is more water.

But we made time for a nice fall tradition today, and for that we're glad.  We read from our Bible, prayed for our friends and gave thanks for a wonderful day together.  It was a nice fall day.
