Yeah, it's "Hump Day." Years later, someone may remember the commercials with the camel going through an office asking people what day it is. His answer: "It's Hump Day!"
Today is in fact Hump Day, the middle of the week. It's also a church night - we covered the movie "A Charlie Brown Christmas" tonight, showing clips from that classic. It was a great night at church.
It was also a great day too - Daddy went home to spend some time with Madison and Mommy this afternoon. Without tennis practice, the two were at home - Mommy is still recovering from her extended illness. So Daddy made some Ramon noodle soup for Madison, and read a few Christmas books to her. We also watched a few Christmas specials - short ones, of course. We watched the Dreamworks specials this month, including the "Penguins Christmas Caper" and the "How to Train Your Dragon" Christmas special.
But soon Daddy was back to work. It's been a tough week for Mommy. We also heard that Ba-Ba has a similar illness. Madison had the same thing last week, a persistent cough and congestion, along with fevers and chills. And fatigue too. It's a bugger. It's frustrating and depressing for Mommy, but the good news is that she seems to be better than she was earlier in the week, where the coughing was more frequent and loud.
Before going for the night, the tradition is to place a devotional entry here. This Christmas season hasn't been exactly perfect, and that's the point of this next entry:
DECEMBER 11 - "Shrek the Halls"
Shrek just wants the perfect Christmas. He’s never had one before, and he wants it just right. He’s even got a checklist of all the things that need to happen in order for there to be a flawless Christmas.
The thing is, his Christmas is far from perfect – and that’s what makes “Shrek the Halls” such a fun Christmas special. From a singing turkey to Ogre Claus to the towering Waffle Santa, you never know what’s going to happen next!
Admit it: we all want our Christmas to be perfect. But Shrek learns – just like we all do each year – that isn't going to happen. Sometimes it’s even messy! But that’s what being human is all about: no one is perfect!
Except for one, of course. And that’s the reason we celebrate Christmas each year. It’s the birthday of the one who is perfect: Jesus. And his Christmas gift to us couldn’t be better: it’s grace, and forgiveness. Grace overlooks what isn’t perfect, and it’s the only reason we can be in heaven. Now there's a reason to spread joy to the world!
This Christmas season, rejoice in that grace. And while at it, show a little grace yourself. No one is perfect!
