Egg Hunt

Things started early this morning as we set up for a massive Easter-themed family day, one with about nine separate chaotic egg hunts and all kinds of other things like a petting zoo, face make-up, caricatures, inflatables, rides, and of course, photos with the Easter Bunny.

We all got here early for set up.  The weather was ideal here for a few hours, with heavy clouds blocking out the intense sunlight.  It was cool and just right.

And not long after that, over 5,000 families descended on the place.  It was a busy, busy day!  I wasn't in the Easter bunny costume this year because of health concerns, but I was on hand to help out the intern who was, and help him through four hours of visits with kids and families.

Those pictures turned out well, and Noah was really good as the Easter bunny.  Meanwhile, right beneath us was the field of eggs... and here's the basic idea of how that went:

Fourteen thousand eggs.  Each "egg hunt" lasted roughly 80 seconds.  Families and kids all lined up, they dropped the ropes, and kids scrambled - no pun intended - for as many eggs as they could pick up.  There wasn't so much of a hunt as there was a dash for all the eggs you can pick up before they were gone.  And they were gone fast!

I have no idea why this sort of thing goes on at Easter, so don't write me and ask me.  I just know that for nostalgic reasons, a lot of people have these crazy "egg hunts."  Growing up, Maddie did all the searching for eggs in our yards or in the house, and it usually lasted a little longer than 80 seconds because there have been clues or some other presentation like that.  This year, Maddie's got another egg hunt we have planned, and you'll have to read about that in a couple days.

Speaking of Maddie, she had a good day today over with Nate and his family.  They had their Easter meal together, and a day with lots of fun games too:

And chickens.  She went over to one of their relatives' houses and stayed a while there, very nice.

Mom and I got the canopy up in the back yard, and that is nice.  I did my virtual walk, and got some more mileage in - I'm happy to say the blood pressure is back to normal again.  Also, tonight we watched "Napoleon Dynamite" again, because why not?  I love that movie.

Maddie got home later on, and we had enough time to read, and then say our prayers - but it was later, and we have a big, big day tomorrow.  Happy Easter!
