You're Late for Tea!

Today was a remarkable day in that, while Daddy was still very busy, we still made time to celebrate. First off, today is National Doughnut Day. And while this may mean very little to others, it certainly is a huge day here in this household.

Actually, we don't eat doughnuts very often. In fact, by our calculations, this is the first day that Madison has ever tasted a doughnut. Her verdict: the outsides are good, but the insides are boring. She had some frosted mini-doughnuts, and was nibbling off the outsides. Meanwhile, Daddy was enjoying the Entemenn's chocolate doughnuts that Mommy surprised him with! Yummy! Daddy loves these doughnuts dipped in milk, but Mommy doesn't seem to understand that. Her loss! Oh, here's an odd fact: the cat likes doughnuts. Isn't that crazy?

Soon after, Daddy went to work - but so did Mommy. She continued her work setting up a magnificent tea party! It was simply frabjous, as indicated by these pictures.

So much good stuff, I had a hard time picking which pictures to post and which not to. Look at the placeholders: they are little teacups made from ice cream cones filled with fruit. Also, Mommy made cupcakes that read "EAT ME" on them, and placed little cupcake toppers on some of them, images of the characters from the recent movie. The cupcakes were, by the way, really delicious. We all ate some of those right away!

Another incredible thing that Mommy did was this: she cut a watermelon in half, and then carved it out, giving it a handle and making it look like a big, green tea cup. Then she filled it with fruit!
The table upstairs was gorgeous, covered with tea cups and decor. The area downstairs was decorated as well: We put Mr. Potato Head downstairs with his Mad Hatter hat on, along with paint brushes with red paint and a red rose nearby. We had Alice in Wonderland bookmarks and door hangers, and teapots everywhere. Out from one teapot was Minnie Mouse, not quite the dormouse, but she'll do! Mommy had Alice and the Cheshire Cat set up, and our new tea set with Alice in Wonderland characters on it, ready to serve Alice in Wonderland tea that we purchased while down at Downtown Disney. Mommy had small sandwiches placed on a plate holder that stacked three plates high - and all along the table there were various samples of tea bags for everyone to choose from.

The great part was this: we all attended tonight's festivities dressed up. Madison was Alice, naturally. Daddy was the Mad Hatter, of course. But Aunt Shain came as the Cheshire Cat, and David Austin came as the White Knight. Jonathan came as a playing card, and Hannah also came as Alice as well. Ye-Ye came as the March Hare, and Nana - like Mommy - wore a hat as well.

It was a great evening, filled with initial laughter and merriment as we all sat down for a proper tea party. None of us, save Mommy, even knew how to have a proper tea party - so I guess it's safe to say this was our first. Of course, it probably wasn't technically proper with everyone wearing ridiculous outfits, but it was still a great deal of fun. The food was delicious, and the tea was nice as well.

Afterwards, we set Madison and Hannah up in her playroom where she could watch "Alice in Wonderland" on her television. This was the older version, which Daddy likes just as much. The artwork is wonderfully rich. Madison got a gift today that we've been holding on to for months: her own tea cart. It's from "Beauty and the Beast" and actually has Mrs. Potts on it, as well as Chip.

Meanwhile, Daddy set up the more recent "Alice in Wonderland" on the television in the living room so that the rest of us could watch. The movie just came out on DVD this past Tuesday, which is why we've decided to have ourselves this unbirthday party. It was a fun night, but before long, Madison was ready for bed!

We tucked her in tonight, and of course Alice is right there beside her sleeping as well.
