We started our new series today, and Madison got to see our drama today, which told the story of Palm Sunday in a pretty unique way. Lance up there at the top is dressed up as a donkey, which sort of says a lot. Also saying a lot today were Cliff and Rocky, our rock puppets. You can see them at the bottom there. Mommy actually made these a long time ago - they're puppets that illustrate the whole "rocks crying out" message of Palm Sunday. Of course, these don't necessarily cry out all the time: they more or less heckle, which drives our resident Pharisee crazy. You can see Black Bart as the pharisee over there to the left - he's still got his cowboy hat and boots on.
We did this drama four times this morning for over 1,000 kids, one of them being Madison. She's next to me now as I type, looking at the pictures and remembering the funny skit she saw. She heard Daddy's voice (he was one of the puppeteers).
Madison enjoyed the whole morning, hearing her teacher Halston tell the story after the drama, and even doing a coloring sheet related to the series:
Brown. It's the new red - she's changed her "coloring things entirely red" to "coloring things entirely brown." Although in the picture above, it's interesting to note that Jesus is wearing black socks and sandals. This may be frowned upon as a fashion faux pas, but it's important to remember that styles were quite different back then. For example, note how everyone is wearing brown in the crowd as well. AD 32 was a big year for the color brown.
She remembered from the skit what Jesus wore:
This doesn't catch the entire crowd in the picture, but here are a lot of the castmembers welcoming Jesus onto the scene. For the next few weeks, we'll be talking about the miracles, and we'll do it in a fun way. Daddy is pretty excited to tell - for the next five weeks - nothing but stories about Jesus. We'll do these dramas four times each Sunday, and two times on Wednesday nights. And even more for our outreach program and KidPak Espanol, perhaps. Everyone is very excited!
We came home, exhausted. Mommy found just enough strength to heat up a pizza, and in a daze, we sat there munching on lunch. We were all pretty spent. Madison didn't think she was tired in the least, of course. But she was the first to fall asleep in bed upstairs!
We snoozed for quite a bit, actually, waking up around 6:00 pm. Whoa! We had just enough time to do something, but not that much energy. Although Madison is always loaded with energy, Mommy and Daddy have been doing quite a bit of work leading up to this new series. In fact, Daddy and some of his co-workers had actually stayed there at the church until about 4:00 am, roughly two hours before we all had to get up again!
SO, we plugged in a movie tonight. Madison has not seen "Night at the Museum" before, but only one brief part of it. The reason we showed it tonight was because we are planning on going to the Fernbank Museum tomorrow - so it all kind of ties together. Of course, at Fernbank, we won't see the dinosaur skeletons and other things come to life. The reason is simple: it won't be night time when we visit!
"All right! Let's do this, people! And... animals! And... weird faceless puppet creatures!"
