July is Here

It's July, and that means a whole lot of things, and we'll start out with the one that always falls on July first, and that's Canada Day.  I use this day as an excuse to get bottles of Clearly Canadian and wear my Toronto Blue Jays hat.  And... that's about it.  One year we did an elaborate Canada celebration at Aunt Shain's house, creating this surprise party many years ago for Nana and Ye-Ye, one where the entire house was decorated because "Yippee, it's Canada."  This year we've got a lot going on though.

Like Sith or Jedi Oreos.  Yes, I picked up a package.  The entire family huddled tensely around this package of cookies, waiting for me to open it up.  For once this was open, the Sith would reveal itself!  Or would it be the Jedi?  That's the gimmick of these cookies - you didn't know which it would be until the package was open.  Fortunately, we discovered that there were nothing but Jedi and heroes inside.  This meant the cookies were not red, and instead all blue.  Amazingly, each cookie has a different hero on it.  I mean, there's probably two of each in there, but that's a lot of cookies and a lot of variety.  A lot of characters on those cookies.

So yeah, I did some grocery shopping today.  We got some things for grilling out, which is something we can do hopefully soon enough.  I picked up some "Pez" ice cream too, these giant Pez bars that look like a Pez candy... but it's ice cream.  Interesting!

Maddie was over at taekwondo while I was shopping around.  I picked up a few things from the grocery stores, plus my usual prescriptions.  Maddie did well with taekwondo, although it's not quite time for sparring yet, given her forehead.  She's ready to spar though - she was putting on her helmet and about to join the fray.  The instructor told her maybe not quite yet, and she knew that already herself.

Maddie got a haircut today at the salon.  Or the loft.  Whatever you want to call it, this place is not far from us, and Maddie has settled in as a bit of a regular now, this perhaps her fourth or fifth visit.  She's happy with her hair now, and of course it's all ready for her Senior pictures, which are coming pretty soon.  Mom and I were there with her, of course the two of us just reading in the waiting area.  Lots of people there spending a lot of money on hair.

A new month means a new badge on iFit, and so I've been walking in Martinique, which was a pretty cool little walk along the beach.  Makes me want to watch pirate movies.  But instead of pirates, we wrapped up the final two episodes of "The Chosen," season four.  Surprisingly, we're already at the entrance to the gates of Jerusalem, with Jesus riding upon the donkey that's never been ridden before.  We also saw Lazarus come forth from his tomb, so it was a pretty eventful night!

There is a scary hurricane south of us, and it's an early one.  This is a strong hurricane, and it's heading towards Jamaica and then beyond that who knows.  But it's early and it's going to be a story for a week or so.  The other story is the condition of our President, something that's been common knowledge for a good while now, but with his performance at the debate, folks are finally realizing that in fact yes, it's true.  It's a big election story this year.

Anyway, today was a good day.  We read tonight, as always, and we're moving on through our short stories from "Return of the Jedi," some good, some bad.  But we're completing the trilogy here, and that's been fun.  We prayed tonight, and we wrapped things up, tucking everyone in for a good night's rest.  July is here and the summer is moving along.
