It was another anniversary today, this one for Mom and I. It's our 24th wedding anniversary - the number is easy to remember because you just look at whatever year it is. I'd like to say I planned that, but in fact, not really. But today sort of snuck up on Mom and I, and we never really had a chance to get much for each other much of anything, given all that's been going on lately. And that was okay, because this morning was just nice waking up and telling each other happy anniversary, and telling Maddie the same stories of the glory days, that wonderful day that we got married at what is now the North Campus of Free Chapel.
We had a big cookout this afternoon. Mom prepared a lot of delicious summer food, and I was out there grilling hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill for us, and wow, we ate and ate and ate. It was a splendid meal. It turned out to be the only meal we ate today, in fact. The smell of the burgers cooking on the grill was a fragrant aroma, as they used to say in the book of Leviticus. Or Deuteronomy. I can't remember which one.
Anyway, it was great to use the grill and have a nice summer meal together with potato salad, macaroni salad, ears of corn, baked beans, hot dogs and hamburgers, and all the toppings too. Yummy! Oh, and speaking of which, we've got this new hummingbird feeder out in the front yard now, and we've been spotting the hummingbirds already enjoying the tasty food out there.
These were taken later at night when it was darker. The hummingbird was getting a late snack! It's one of those feeders with a perch, so it's kind of neat watching them rest a while as they take in deep sips of that sweet drink.
Tonight Maddie had taekwondo, and I was there with her, watching her spar for the first time since her accident. Another student actually busted his lip, and that was unfortunate - the kids are getting banged up. In fact, that was one of the reasons for canceling out the upcoming appearance at Gatlinburg for competition. This just gives everyone time for rest and also gives parents' wallets a rest too!
I was doing a good bit of work today for KidPak, writing on this weekend's message for the campuses, and I got a good bit done, even finishing up the musical scores for the skits we're doing at Summer Xtreme. Amazingly, I'm using AI this year to do ambient backtracking to set the mood of the skits, and it's working out well. But there are a few other tracks that I'm using, and I'm proud to say I was able to use a few from the movie "Frozen" too!
We watched "Suite Life" again tonight, about two episodes, barreling through on that season one. It's fun. Maddie is really enjoying it, and yeah, so are we. It's still laugh-out-loud at points. Call us old-school if you want. It's a different era, a different time, but it's still fun!
Tonight's reading from our Star Wars book was a short story about Sy Snootles - remember her? It's okay if you don't. She's an obscure "Return of the Jedi" character, lead singer of the Max Rebo Band. She's also a fairly dangerous character to mess with, which you'd know if you've seen a few certain episodes of "The Clone Wars." We'll probably finish that story tomorrow - it was late when we got to bed.
So our President is saying he's still going to be in the race, this in spite of some fairly intense pressure to drop out. Things look not so good for one side of this election. We'll see how it turns out, but this is certainly another precedent-setting year for the Executive branch. It'll be certainly the subject of many Presidential trivia questions many years down the road. As of right now, it's feeling a little uneasy. We'll see how it turns out though.
Anyway, we said our prayers tonight, and then all the Plush Entourage got tucked in. Time for some rest. Tomorrow we've got a big day, and we're getting up a little early. Not too early. Just a bit. Goodnight!
