Thwomp Costume

So Mom and I were working on this idea for a Thwomp costume.  The form was easy enough, as we had some old boxes from a hardware store at KidPak.  We put a base coat on it, covering it in white.  And then we covered it with a grey spray paint.  All that was easy, but then I was considering the face and how to do that - we were going to paint the face on there at first, and then I realized I could just print the elements of the face on four separate pieces of card stock.  I found that online, created a pdf, printed it out, and then cut the parts of the face out.  Then we glued face on, and you can see the results above - an instant Thwomp!  Tomorrow's skit promises to be super fun, including a video I saw Josh still working on today, one where Thwomps are crashing down all over the place.

Today we were up in White County again, this time to the post office to go for an appointment to get Maddie her passport.  The idea is that we have it ready if we were to do a cruise or something like that.  The process was pretty easy - we had all the paperwork filled out ahead of time, and Mom had assembled all kinds of documentation ahead of time, including other back-up material should we have needed it.  We didn't.  The process went smoothly and the lady there was nice.  While there, we stopped and took a picture of my old PO Box from our earlier life there.  We were there so long ago that there was actually another location for the post office closer to the square, but Nana and Ye-Ye used this one for quite some time.  Maddie sent them a picture of that for fun.

Afterwards, we continued our Barbecue Tour 2023, visiting a new location called Rib Country.  It was up there in Cleveland, one of four locations for this barbecue chain.  It was actually Mom's favorite ribs so far!  We really enjoyed the food, the service, the atmosphere, and all of it.  So far, our "Barbecue Tour 2023" has visited two places, and we've enjoyed both, but this is our favorite in a while.  Mom has said her favorite ribs so far have been from a guy serving them up at the Sautee Pottery Festival last year, and at Cheddars, but this now claims the crown.  We'll certainly make a point of coming back this way, but there are other destinations on our tour.  Baked beans were okay, but Cole slaw was really good.  Fries were great with the three barbecue sauces at the table, and the ribs were just divine.  Maddie has been enjoying barbecue lately, and I think her shift in this direction started with Buc-ee's a few weeks ago, and the subsequent barbecue stops. She'll eat ribs, but her preference is a brisket barbecue sandwich with fries and heaps of sauce, and of course it's hot sauce with a little bite to it.

Anyway, we enjoyed it.  So this week, Topol passed away, the star of "Fiddler on the Roof" and a great character in the James Bond movie, "For Your Eyes Only."  It was "Fiddler on the Roof" that was on our mind all day today though, so we popped in that movie tonight and Maddie was being it for the first time, and enduring Mom and Dad singing along with all of it too.  It's a classic.  It's also a lot more emotional than what I remember, a small picture of what the Jewish people endured.

Afterwards, we finished off "Faust Eric" tonight, wrapping up yet another Discworld book with Maddie.  Presently, we've finished seven of them, I think.  There's just one more with Rincewind as the protagonist, and we'll be getting to that one next, I think.

It was a decent day - we said our prayers tonight after reading from the devotional, and soon we were all alseep.

  1. Do you still have the print files for the thwomp face? I'm doing some decorations for my kiddo's birthday party.
