This is a dish Mommy made up today, one using some fresh zucchini and squash from a friend's garden. Camille and her mother had some extra vegetables harvested, and passed them along to us, and you can see one of the things that Mommy did with that, above. It was delicious!
It was a pretty full day today, or at least that was the plan to begin with. Starting out, I was out getting all the grass taken care of in the front yard, because the extreme heat lately makes it near impossible to do later in the afternoon. I was able to take care of the front with edging, mowing and so forth, but by the end of it all, I might as well have jumped in a pool considering how humid the air was outside.
SO... why not jump in the pool? We had reservations for today at noon, and yes, we were just at a different pool yesterday. But if you have access to a pool, I say go for it.
But first, KidPak. We watched the final episode of our "Unleashed" series today, finishing up yet another completely online series for KidPak. This week, we used games that were filmed at our OC campus, ones that they sent to us for Summer Xtreme, but there were some difficulties in the transfer process (lessons learned!), so we had to wait to air these. But here they are in our final week of "Unleashed," and they turned out well! As always, we continued from there with three of our children's pastors speaking, just from home though. They are filming themselves, as things seem to be getting more challenging with the virus situation here locally. Once again, today we received word that the offices are closed next week. Someone has probably tested positive for the virus, and "out of an abundance of caution," we're all working from home next week.
Ugh.
After KidPak, we did go down to the pool, and it's funny how hot you can get even while swimming, but we lathered up with sunscreen, and swam for about an hour or so. It's still restricted to a smaller number of families, so it wasn't overcrowded or anything. It was just a nice pleasant swim.
We came back home after that, and Madison was working on her piano for a bit. I wrote the fourth message for the "Oz" series, one based on the movie, "Oz the Great and Powerful." When it got cooler, we were back out in the garden, putting up bamboo stakes to hold up the tomato plants. These were about seven feet tall - these tomato plants we purchased have really been growing upward and outward, and bearing a lot of fruit. In fact, we got our first tomato today, which is always such a marvelous accomplishment. We have literally bore fruit! Or a vegetable. Whatever it is, this proud first fruit is now in our kitchen. I think we're supposed to bring the first fruits to the church or something... I'm not sure what they'd do with it now...
Anyway, we had plans to do a lot of filming today. And those plans crashed, as Josh was feeling under the weather. With "an abundance of caution," we cancelled that shoot. He's not feeling that bad, but these days, you just never know about things. And of course we've gone on and on about that lately: too much information contracting other information, and all of it sent out by people who sound like they're completely sure. Who to believe depends winds up being based on personal convictions or experience, or even political leanings. Anyway, no filming today. We stayed home after all this. And... we're staying home all week from the office. Yep.
Tonight we fell into our nightly routine again, with our usual bingewatching, plus another few chapters from "Diggers," which had a bit of excitement to them. We prayed for Ba-Ba, who we spoke with today on the phone. Tomorrow we're finding out the results of his testing last week, and finding out how effective the chemotherapy has been. It's a critical moment.
We went to bed tonight with those prayers, and for prayers for anyone with this virus, and for prayers for the country. The prayers were for healing for us all.
