Viking Ring Toss

Today was all about the setting up for tomorrow, where we see the Northern Lights at KidPak for the first time.  This is a series we've been holding on to for so long - ten years for some messages.  In the beginning of KidPak, there were occasional Viking skits.  This was before there were monthly themes. When the themes started, we did cowboys and pirates and everything in between.  But we just never got around to that Viking series we were wanting to do.

The recent popularity of "Frozen" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2" helped changed that.  The Thor movies are here too, as if to give us further enthusiasm about this sort of series with the kids.  For the boys, there are Vikings.  There is Thor.  There are dragons.  For the girls, all you need is "Frozen."  It's going to be a lot of fun.

But first, it's going to be a lot of work. The set is currently being constructed, and the music selected - we're going with a bit of a Celtic vibe there.  Yes, we always theme our music as well.  Pictures are easy to find for offering and so forth - there are a lot of "Frozen" concept images out there to plunder like Vikings would.  We don't use these for much other than backdrops and so forth.  The kids will be immersed in a snowy world tomorrow!

Today was also the last day to cram in as much Christmas candy as possible, because tomorrow is the first day of the church's annual 21-day fast.  Daddy is considering going further this year, but we'll see how it all goes.  Madison has decided to give up candy and sweets, which includes ice cream.  Ice Cream is a category all unto its own with Madison.  And giving up ice cream is a big deal.  Fortunately, the temperature is about to drop so low that perhaps we won't feel like ice cream as much.  This week upcoming, things are projected to dip down into the teens again.  Now that the rain has passed, the temperature can plunge - see how that works?  If the two of these were coinciding with each other, we'd be covered over in snow.  But that's okay, because there's a lot to do here, and our stage has plenty of snow on it for the time being. We're even putting in white carpet on the stage, something we haven't seen in a while.

Daddy got home later today, as did Josh, who spent the night in the guest room.  Still, we'll get a good night's sleep - which is rare for a new series launch.  Part of the reason behind this is the "soft opening" we have planned.  It's a "movie" service, where we show clips from "How to Train Your Dragon 2," which has a few preaching points in it.  Another activity we'll be trying out is this one:

Yep, it's the Viking Ring Toss.  They have these horned hats, so why not put them on volunteers?  Two teams of kids will compete to see who tosses the most rings around their adult volunteer's Viking helmet.  Will it be girls or boys that win?  We'll find that out tomorrow.  It should be a fun day for Madison and all the other children at KidPak!
