Who Do You Trust?

The Joker asked, "Hubba, hubba, hubba - who do you trust?"  I'm giving away free games!  And where... and where... is the Batman?

Here he is, pretty much the only thing that gets us excited about DC Comics these days.  I know the Batman movies of late have been good, but we miss the old style comic book stuff.  And we're not entirely sure about this upcoming "Man of Steel" movie about Superman either.

All that said, Daddy always did like the heroes of DC.  It's just that our house is more a house of Marvel - as evidenced by Madison's love of the Superhero Squad, and Daddy's ginormous comic book collection downstairs.

Some houses are divided about this Marvel vs. DC thing.  Some houses are strictly one or the other, sort of like a house that supports a particular college or a political party.  And as said earlier, we lean Marvel ... but Madison and Daddy have really been looking forward to plugging in "Lego Batman 2."  It was one of Madison's long-term goals, something she could only earn if she could play all of the song "Packy's Parade" on the piano - with both hands.  And after a lot of practice, she earned the game - which she was surprised to discover that Daddy had upstairs in a drawer all along.  She thought Daddy would have to go out and buy it, when all of the sudden, he literally had it for her upstairs the moment she played the song a few times without mistake.

We've got another song to work on with both hands - this one is a bit more difficult.  For Daddy, it's more difficult, at least.  For Madison, it seems to be okay - it's called, "Spinning Around," and the difficulty here lies is notes that are a bit different from our usual pattern.  Still, she's doing okay with it.

Today after school, we had a compressed schedule:  homework was first, of course.  We had the letter "Z" to work on, so Madison went to work writing sentences and cutting out things Daddy had found the start with the letter "Z."  Yes, we had a picture of a zamboni.  And one of Zazu.  And Zorro.  Obviously one of Marty the Zebra too.  And more - Daddy had a challenge finding some good "z" words, but he did find enough to fill a page!

After that was piano, which Madison did well at - especially considering that she knew she'd be playing video games soon.  It's so cute when she says what she wants to do after playing piano.  "I want to play X-box," she asks nicely.  And then Daddy says, "You do?"  And she says, "With you!"  That's the sweet part!

Mommy had another fish dinner for Daddy, which was great - she's looking after Daddy's health!  We had a visit from the Gorton's Fisherman.

At KidPak, you can trust the Gorton's Fisherman.  He's another guy you can trust.  During one particular skit of our pirate series, he became legendary because our pirate captain felt like his crew actually trusted this Gorton's Fisherman more than he himself:

NARRATOR:  “Once the hole in the side of the ship was repaired, the merciful crew fished Lance out of the water. But…that’s not the only thing they fished out of the water…”

PEPE screams something unintelligible, holding up fishsticks.

NARRATOR:  “That’s right.  The crew of the Nervous Wreck received dozens of packages of fresh fish sticks, straight from the Gorton’s fisherman.”

BLACK BART:  “And you can trust the Gorton’s fisherman!”

CUE SLIDE:  Gorton’s Fisherman Image

PEPE utters something unintelligible and then runs into cabin to presumably prepare fishsticks.

PEG LEG:  “Great idea, Pepe – go cook us some fish sticks.”

CAPTAIN:  “How exactly, Mr. Bart, do you know you can trust the Gorton’s fisherman?”

BLACK BART:  “Why, he’s been delivering fine quality fish since 1849, Captain.  I’d trust him more than anyone else out here on the high seas!”

CAPTAIN:  “Oh really?”

BLACK BART:  “Really!”

CAPTAIN:  “More so than…say….ME?”

BLACK BART:  “Well, I’m not saying that exactly.”

PEG LEG:  “What he’s trying to say is that …”

CAPTAIN:  “What he’s trying to say is that the Gorton’s Fisherman would be a better captain than I would…weren’t you, Mr. Bart?”

BLACK BART:  (muttering)  “We probably wouldn’t have all the troubles we would be having now, would we?”

CAPTAIN:  “What?  What did you say?”

PEG LEG:  “Maybe, gentlemen … and I use that term lightly here… we ought to focus more on the fact that the dread pirate the Scarlet Blade is still chasing us in the pirate ship, the Avenger!”

CAPTAIN:  (mutters) “I think we ought to focus more right now on who is captain of this ship!”

PEG LEG:  “Let me be as monosyllabic as possible here (pointing off distance)  Them bad.  Come to get us.  Steal stuff.  Sink our ship.  Bad, bad, bad!”

Daddy loves the word "monosyllabic."  I got it from watching "Treasure Planet," in case you're trying to remember where you heard it before.  That was a funny skit that day - but all the pirate skits have been great.  It was a great story about a pirate ship in pursuit of our heroes, who of course were a small band of pathetic pirates trying to prove themselves.  That's always the way, isn't it?

That was way off-topic, wasn't it?  We sort of went from the letter "z" to piano to fish sticks and pirates.   Anyway, once the piano practice was over with, it was time for video games!  Yippee!  Madison raced into the great room, and practically set everything up on her own.  It was a ton of fun, the two of us exploring and beating up bad guys together.

But soon, it was time for Daddy to go off.  He put it off for a while, but there was a visit to a funeral home in Toccoa he had to go to, so it was time to say goodnight.  But we had a great time together.  And Mommy had a great time talking with Madison tonight.  They prayed, and talked about angels together.  Mommy was talking about angels that help and protect, and Madison looked around the room to see any of them.  She then told Mommy a story:  an angel helped her when she was very young.  It was an angel that caught her when she fell in the bath tub.

I'm not sure if she actually saw this angel, or simply felt it.  And I'm not sure if it's the event that I remember early on - it was honestly one of the scariest moments of my life.  Daddy was filling the tub, and Madison suddenly had decided to climb on top of the toilet seat to go around him - it was a small bathroom.  She fell off the toilet toward the small space in between the toilet and the tub.  Head first.

Daddy was so incredibly frightened.  It was one of those simple moments, where I picked her up as quickly as possible, carrying her into a larger room - the kitchen, it happened to be.  He cradled her, praying that nothing terrible happened to her as she fell.  He looked, and despite all the tears from Madison, it appeared as if she was okay.  In fact, no bruises developed and no scrapes, cuts or blood appeared.  The fall seemed so violent, and yet she was okay.  Needless to say, Daddy was incredibly thankful, grateful, and in tears himself - crying because I was so happy Madison was okay.

A sweet smile crossed Daddy's face when he heard what Madison said.  We all went to bed feeling safe and secure, an angel watching over us all.   And when all is said and done, we remember that God is the one we can really trust.
